Lumedx (now Telerad) faced a critical challenge: when selling their enterprise cardiology software suite, they were required to bundle a competitor’s ECG management solution. To establish a more competitive position in the market, they needed a cloud-based ECG management system capable of rivaling industry leaders such as Epiphany and GE MUSE.
At the time, I had transitioned from my role as Director of Product Management at Lumedx to independent consulting. When the company decided to develop its own ECG/cardiology management system, I was initially engaged to deliver a Market Requirement Document (MRD). Recognizing the project’s potential for commercial success, I also developed a Product Requirements Document (PRD), which demonstrated its economic viability. Shortly thereafter, I was brought on full-time to lead the product’s development, collaborating closely with the engineering team in Pune, India.
Within just five days, we had a proof of concept leveraging an open-source C++ ECG viewer. In five weeks, I was prepared to bring the solution back to the U.S. for testing and regulatory validation. In under eighteen months, we successfully secured FDA approval and Saudi regulatory certification, leading to the system’s deployment at a client site in Dammam, Saudi Arabia.
